From Sump:
"This week’s coffee comes to us from the Kindeng Dry Mill, located in the Jikawa province of Papua New Guinea. It is a blend of coffee purchased in cherry from about 1500 smallholder farms located in the Kindeng and Arufa municipalities. The average farm size of producers in this area is about 1-2 hectares, much like a majority of Ethiopian and Kenyan smallholders. Sourcing coffee in Papua New Guinea can be especially challenging due in part to the vast array of indigenous dialects and customs, as well as a general lack of electronic connection to other parts of the globe, both through internet and phone.
Much of this cup’s personality is indicative of the region and specific terroir of Papua New Guinea. Tart red berry is the first notable impression, specifically raspberry and baking cherries. After that bright opening, the flavor mellows and embodies a dried fruit characteristic reminiscent of raisin. As the sip finishes, earthy sweetness like molasses takes over and rounds out the experience. This cup feels like a classic naturally processed coffee in its bold but balanced nature, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we have."
